HFMF STATE JUNIOR SHORT COURSE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS
The HFMF State Junior Short Course Swimming Championships were held at Challenge Stadium on 21 and 22 August 2010.
Seven Swimmers from Aquajets Swimming Club qualified to attend this meet namely: Melanie Kennedy (12 yrs), Emma Ransome (12 yrs), Rebecca Feast (12 yrs), Sean Ford (12 yrs), Isaac Kelsall (11 yrs), Reilly Kennedy (10 yrs) and Erin Ford (9 yrs).
The club won 16 medals: 7 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze. Some terrific personal best times were also set. Congratulations to:
Melanie Kennedy – 5 gold & 1 silver
Isaac Kelsall – 3 silver & 1 bronze
Reilly Kennedy – 1 gold, 2 silver & 1 bronze
Erin Ford – 1 gold, 1 silver
Aquajets placed 8th overall out of 33 clubs that attended – a fantastic effort considering there were only 7 swimmers!
HFMF STATE AGE SHORT COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The HFMF State Age Short Course Championships were held at Challenge Stadium over two weekends – 24th & 25th July and 31st July and 1st August 2010.
Seven members from Aquajets Swimming Club competed at the Championships and all seven achieved some excellent personal best time in all the events they took part in.
The club won 6 medals overall: 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.
Congratulations are extended to:
Ross Hendry – Gold in 200m Butterfly
Justin Van Nieuwburg – Gold in 200m Butterly, Silver in 200 IM and Silver in 200m Freestyle
Melanie Kennedy – Bronze in 200m Butterfly and Bronze in 200m Backstroke
Aquajets placed 17th out of 34 clubs in the overall point score.
MANDURAH CLUB CHALLENGE, 4 JULY 2010
It was an early and……. freezing!!!……., Sunday morning start for nine Aquajets Swimmers taking part in the Mandurah Club Challenge. All came armed with blankets, sleeping bags and plenty of hot drinks in preparation for a long and somewhat ‘cool’ day of swimming! Despite the cold, some swimmers pulled out some great PB’s - special mention to Isaac Kelsall who achieved 6 personal best times and won himself 1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal. Other medal winners included: Sarah Feast: 2 gold and 2 silver, Erin Ford: 1 gold and 2 bronze, Melanie Kennedy: 1 silver and Caitlin Ford 1 bronze. Aquajets placed 11th overall out of the 36 clubs that participated Well done to all swimmers, you all did amazingly well despite the sub arctic conditions!
SWA QUALIFYING MEET #2, 19 & 20 JUNE 2010
Twelve members from Aquajets Swimming Club attended the SWA Qualifying Meet #2 held at Challenge Stadium over the weekend of 19 & 20 June, 2010. Most swimmers attained personal best times with many achieving State Qualifying Times too. Well done to all swimmers.
SOUTHLAKE DOLPHINS MEET, 5 JUNE 2010
This was the first shortcourse meet of the season attended by Aquajets Swimming Club. Four swimmers attended this meet – Sean, Caitlin and Erin Ford and Emma Ransome. Congratulations are extended to all four swimmers – Erin Ford won 2 gold and 1 silver medal and achieved 3 personal best times. Caitlin Ford won 2 silver and 1 bronze medal and achieved 3 personal best times. Sean Ford achieved 3 personal best times one of these being a state qualifying time for his 50 breaststroke. Emma attained a personal best time in her 50m backstroke and this was also a state qualifying time. Well done to you all for a great start to the shortcourse season!
NATIONAL TEAM UPDATE
We wish to congratulate our National Swimmers, Ross, Justin and Sarah for their amazing efforts this week at the National Age Championships held at Sydney Olympic Park.
Ross won himself a Bronze Medal in the 1500m Freestyle in a time of 16.23.10 – a 5 second improvement on his record breaking time set at the SunSmart State Open Swimming Championships held at the end of January. A fantastic effort considering he was overcome by illness.
Justin swam a superb 800m Freestyle accomplishing a 13 second personal best time to finish the race in a time of 9.19.62. Justin also accomplished personal best times in the 100m & 200m butterfly.
The 14 year old girls 200m breaststroke was one of the last events of the 6 day competition and Sarah is to be commended for also managing to achieve a personal best time in this event.
All in all a terrific accomplishment. We hope you enjoy your very well deserved break!

The SWA Junior State Championships were held at Challenge Stadium on 20 & 21 March 2010. Seven members from Aquajets qualified to participate at this meet. All swimmers achieved some excellent personal best times and congratulations are extended to Isaac Kelsall who won a gold in his 200m breaststroke and a bronze in his 200m IM, Erin Ford who won a silver in the 50m butterfly and bronze in the 100m butterfly and Melanie Kennedy who won gold in the 200m butterfly, silver in the 200m backstroke, bronze in the 50m backstroke and bronze in the 100m butterfly.
WESTERN SPRINT MEET – 14 FEBRUARY 2010
WESTERN SPRINT MEET
The Western Sprint Meet held at Challenge Stadium on Sunday 14 February saw 15 Aquajets swimmers participate. Some excellent personal best times were set and special congratulations are awarded to Sarah Feast who, not only won a gold medal in the 200m Breaststroke, but accomplished her 14 year old National Qualifying time. Fantastic Sarah, we are so proud of you! Very well done to Olivia Bowling, who also won herself two silver medals on the day in the 50m and 200m Breaststroke and came closer to accomplishing her National Qualifying time!
ROSS WRITES HIMSELF INTO THE RECORD BOOKS
SUNSMART STATE OPEN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Ross Hendry participated in the SunSmart Sate Open Swimming Championships which were held at Challenge Stadium from 27-30 January 2010. Ross wrote himself into the record books twice in one race! He entered the 1500m Freestyle with a seed time of 16.39.45. At the 800m mark Ross’s time was 8.48.29. This time broke Nathanael Ruback’s 2006 WA Residential and WA All Time record of 8.55.05. Ross came home in a time of 16.28.19, beating Warren Wild’s 1500m Residential & WA All Time record set in 1991 of 16.34.31. What a terrific accomplishment Ross. We are SO proud of you!!!
